Keeping up your blood sugar level is important when cycling, and India offers plenty of choice for the hungry cyclist. Tea and biscuits on the road around 3 o'clock are a good idea.

Sometimes, after a few hours in the saddle, and a couple of sweet biscuits, Mr Pumpy gets a sugar rush and can't stop talking.

"Oh, that Mr Pumpy-jee!" says Raja, the shopkeeper, "He can't stop the yakkety-yak! He's going on and on about I don't know what!"

There's plenty of shops and stalls along the way, and you are never more than twenty minutes away from food and drink. Out in the country the shopkeepers are pleasant and will not rip you off. Tea, biscuits and a bottle of water costs all up less than a dollar.
